In November of 1999, I asked God for someone to come alongside me, to partner with me in the counseling ministry He ordained. Little did I know that God answered my prayer before I spoke it.
I barricaded myself in my house for several years because the world was an unsafe place. Then, in September, I was summoned for jury duty. It was the last day of jury selection so I figured I was off the hook. Nope, they called my name to be a jury member on a sexual abuse case. I don't remember too much from the time the district attorney began questioning me about my sexual abuse history and the judge telling me that he dismissed me from all future jury duty. I drove to a friend's house to say "Goodbye" because suicide was my next step. She called my pastor who told me that he knows of a Christian Counselor who could help. I gave God 30 days to help me or else I would follow through on killing myself.
The next day the pastor and I went to the office of that so called Christian Counselor. When she walked out of her office I thought, "Oh, there's a quack if I ever saw one." Long story short, God is faithful.
We ministered beside each other for 22 years. Myrna is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Annette is a Lay Christian Adviser. Together we worked as two fine oiled gears to bring the hurting and wounded to a place of healing. We participated throughout the years in mental health seminars and trainings to maintain our expertise in order to serve our clientele at an optimal level.
Each and every one of you told an unique story. It is not your fault that you were abused. It is not your fault that you have mental health issues. It is not your fault when. . . You are not worthless or stupid or incompetent. You are not in this alone.
